Vitamins in food

Vita means!!!!!

Vitamins are natural substances found in plants and animals. The body uses these substances to stay healthy and support its many functions. There are two types of vitamins: water-soluble and fat-soluble. Water-soluble vitamins are easily absorbed by your body. The fat-soluble vitamins do not get absorbed using bile acids (the fluids which are used to digest fats). The body does not store large amounts of water-soluble vitamins. The unnecessary water-soluble vitamins are removed by your kidneys and come out in your urine.

Vitamins rich in food sources

There are especially 13 vitamins essential for bodily functions: Vitamins A, C, D, E, K, and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and folate). They all can be obtained from food, and vitamin D and vitamin K can be synthesized by the body. Food supplements are concentrated sources of nutrients or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect whose purpose is to supplement the intake of nutrients in the normal diet, such as vitamins, amino acids, minerals, fibres, plant extracts etc.

How much do I need?

We should look towards our eating habits and remember the following:
(1) Aim to get the nutrients your body needs from foods first.
(2) A vitamin/mineral supplement will not make up for a poor diet.
(3) Vitamin and mineral supplements do not contain the fibre and phytochemicals found in whole foods. Moreover, one misses out on the pleasure associated with eating those foods rich in vitamins and minerals.
(4) More is not better
If you are including plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy and calcium containing beverages and foods as well as a variety of protein choices, you are likely getting enough vitamins and minerals in your diet. However, if you avoid any one particular group of foods or your food choices are less-than-optimum, taking supplements may help to fill in the gaps.
Conclusion
Taking supplements may provide some nutrition however the speedy dose may be toxic, how much to take may be a bit confusing, fillers and binders may not go along with system and often time they just smell and taste terrible. Conversely, deriving vitamins through a healthy food is natural, does not wash out as fast, comes in healthy casing, and can be prepared to agree with your lifestyle.
